Liverpool have done it! They have now won their 6th Champions League. Back to where they belong. With this victory Liverpool have put themselves into 3rd most all time with 6 cups. It has been a long journey for this squad, club, and fans. This team has been through the worsts and now highs in a very long 14 years since they last won it. During that time since ’05 Liverpool only won a domestic cup in 2012 making it a very long dry spell for such a prestigious club.
Heading into the final Liverpool were favorites and they showed this during the final. Not by dominating possession which Liverpool’s norm is but by scoring early and defending the lead. Tottenham were their opponents on the night and looked like they went into the game to try and slow the game down, take control of the ball and launch balls up to Harry Kane and go forward from there.
The early penalty from Mo. Salah seemed to be a questionable one as it did not look like a clear cut hand ball from Sissoko, but from the replay shows him holding his arm out for multiple seconds which was enough for the referee to say it was a deserved penalty call.
After Salah buried it – even though Lloris looked like he should have stopped it Liverpool took control over the game. A few late pushes from Spurs but Liverpool’s world record signing keeper Alisson made a handful of vital saves to keep the lead for Liverpool. After these pushed Liverpool received a corner late into the game and the un-sung hero Divock Origi netted it with his left foot to seal the deal for the reds.
With the that Henderson was lifting the cup on a late night in Madrid and the parties were soon to follow after with the parade taking place the next afternoon in Liverpool, England.
